Corridor209 viewsIt's hard to see here, but this corridor was tiled in cool 1930's tortoise shell tiles.
Swanky!

Wind Direction Indicator92 viewsThe 'chimney status indicator' panel - a Wind Direction and Speed indicator.
No doubt then the wind was blowing towards Glasgow they could switch to a more polluting grade of oil and start burning medical waste!

The Clinical Lab132 viewsWe pass through the old Clinical Laboratory on our way to the BTU.

BTU145 viewsThe back of the Blood Transfusion Unit.
When last we visited, this building was still in use and very secure, now it's seen the wear and tear of weeks of Police training in preperation for the G8 Summit - and it shows!
Now, we have a rough idea where the Animal Testing Labs were, so let's see what we can find.

FirPark - Patient is Aggressive324 viewsIf proof were needed: this patient might require THREE nurses if aggressive???
I'm not unfit and I'm young - but I doubt I would need three nurses to restrain me... This patient must have been VERY unruly... And strong!

Kitchens - Laundry - Engineering123 views...Where we are greeted with this view of the combination Kitchens / Laundry / Power-House!
Again, this isn't a common design in Scotland - we tended to keep the boiler house a bit separate; with the logic that they tend to explode now and again, especially in the early days of steam central heating design!
The differences in Asylum Design are subtle, but very interesting!

In The Kitchen 144 viewsLooks fairly self contained - the word 'Kitchen' isn't quite accurate, as this room would have been mainly used for reheating and serving the meals which would have been sent over from the main kitchens. You could make a cup of tea here, but a full turkey dinner for your family and friends?
I doubt it.

The Truck - Engine106 viewsThe Truck fascinates us - we MUST drive it.
Looking at the engine though, we are in for a disappointment: it's a four cylinder diesel. Great for torque and power: but NOISY!
Driving this in here would bring people from a 10 mile radius running. Additionally, the battery is gone - removed for charging no doubt... None of us fancy push-starting a vehicle with 10inch wheels that weighs over two tons either!

Weird Message216 viewsWhile this was no doubt an ex-student saying good-bye to the facility, it kinda' makes a point about residential mental health care as a whole, hmmm?
Oh, and the bit added by a cheeky wee ned almost works too!

The Wards - Damp242 viewsI think the wards have seen better days! While I'm told they were always draughty and cold, I doubt they had giant puddles of damp when Law was still open!
