The Model Map42 viewsIf every cloud has a silver lining - this site's is that the sales centre (where they are desperately trying to flog off their new houses) has very detailed models and maps of where we are!
We talk with the salesman for a while, he tells us that when the project first started each flat was for sale for at least £140,000... Today he was pushing us to take one for £100,000 and I got the impression we could have talked him down. Economic Recession = a buyer's market.
Anyways, looking at this cute wee model (with the listed buildings in white), I identified the following:
1 - The original administration building
2 - The medical superintendent's residences
3 - The kitchens
4 - The original X-Ray pavilion and wards (http://www.turbozutek.f2s.com/thumbnails.php?album=60)
5 - The Acute Admissions (Triage) building
6 - The Panda Centre
7 - The Women and Children Unit
8 - Ross House (the subject of today's assize)
* - Fuck knows, these currently don't exist or have been knocked down.

1Location Grainy173 viewsThis part of the site is interesting - no matter the conditions, at night this part of the site is always pitch black.
The bright white wards radiate a little light back and no more. Good night vision is required!

1Location - The TA Building41 viewsDesigned by the famous architect Thomas Graham Abercrombie and built in 1896, the Paisley 'Army Base' presently sits unwanted and unloved. A fire recently caused a lot of damage to the left side of the building; hence the boarding, as previously the building sat empty for over 3 years with not one single board on the windows and not a single one smashed!
We called this 'the f---ing miracle building'!
And today we are going to try and have a look.

Outside - Entrance208 viewsThe X-RAY Department: once upon a time the only sure way to test the extent of a TB infection! X-Ray plates would be taken and a Doctor could asses the amount of damage by the 'shadowing' around the lungs.
This unit closed early on, in the 80's - as the hospital moved away from being a TB / Fever hospital and focused on other fields of medicine.

Regular Entrance115 viewsThis would be the normal entrance to the boat... There is no gangway, a 6 metre vault to the other side and it's a 8 metre drop into freezing water. Additionally, the boat is not level with the wharf and the floor on the boat is wood - rotten and suspect.
We write this particular entrance off as a bad idea!
But how to get in!??
|
|

Visitors Corridor117 viewsThe main corridor seems to be setup as something of a 'visitor's centre' - with colourful (if very 80's) maps and diagrams on the wall explaining the need for and operation of the plant.

Death Star Answering Machine134 viewsIt might be dusty, but this 1980's style black plastic answering machine is in VERY good nick (and you know it's cool because it has MICROPROCESSOR CONTROL)!! I can only think this was left over from the buildings' Security HQ days as the phone-line it's hooked to has long been removed.

Dedication Plaque25 viewsIt's strange - every statement I've found mentions that this place was built around 1971.
Yet here's a plaque celebrating 1985's opening. I can only guess they had a re-fit... Or it took them 15 years to build the place!!
